The pride and joy of the treasury room, the central diamond has a weight of 86 carat , and it is surrounded by 49 very large brilliant cut diamonds.

The story goes that it was found in a rubbish bin in Egrikapi during the reign of Mahmed IV (1648-87) and it was brought by a street peddler for three spoons. A jeweller then bought it, realising its worth then later a dispute arose about the price at which it was sold. The grand vezir Mustafa Pasa heard about the matter and offered to buy it. When the Sultan learned of the matter he brought the diamond to the palace where it was first made into a ring, then later surrounded by the brilliant cut diamonds and made into a turban ornament.

Today’s feature diamond ring is from the “Designer Collection” at Ultra Diamonds. This fine pave diamond ring is a little out of the ordinary of what I have been reviewing.

I supposed that you could use it as an diamond engagement ring (and you certainly would be unique, and not at all in a silly way) but I see this one more as an anniversary or Valentine’s Day gift.

However you choose to gift it, this diamond pave ring is very special because it is one of ONLY 50 pieces produced worldwide. Inspired by the art deco period,  each piece is engraved with a serial number, Peter Lam’s signature and a certificate of authenticity.

Designed by Peter Lam it is a unique piece with 1 carats in diamonds where the main diamond is extravagantly framed by pave diamonds.  This gives the illusion of sparkle shine and brilliance.

Channel Set Diamond Engagement Ring

Today I have selected a wedding ring that one can only fall in love with. This one came straight out of the “Design Your Own Engagement Ring” tool from the James Allen Site (one of our premier Diamond Online Retailers).

I chose the diamond setting for its throne-like positioning of the diamond.  It gives an aire of confidence and elegance much like a queen would present on a throne.  The channel setting serves to accentuate and frame the diamond and therefore preparing the eyes for the diamond stone that has been chosen.

The Engagement Ring Setting is created of 18K White Gold with  24 carre diamonds totaling a minimum of 0.60 ct.  The prongs on the setting can take any diamond shape ranging from 0.50 carat to 3.50 carats.

Because the channel diamonds are a square cut I felt it was important to continue with the theme and thus I have selected a princess cut diamond for the engagement ring setting.  You also could have chosen an asscher cut diamond and that would also work beautifully.

This Princess Cut Diamond is a 1.92 carat premium cut diamond. I purposely chose a diamond just under the threshhold of the next whole number carat weight.  Doing this saves  you a few hundred dollars that can help you upgrade in the other characteristics like color or clarity. Believe me, no one will notice that it is a 1.92 carat diamond instead of a 2.00 carat diamond.

Since I made the wise decision to buy under the carat weight break I was able to pay up for this diamond’s G rated Color, VS2 Clarity,  Premium Cut and most importantly its GIA certification.

Blue Nile Graduated Diamond Ring & Band

Today’s engagement ring is from Blue Nile. I designed it using the Design Your Own Engagement Ring” tool.

It’s a charming,  rather elegant and classy ring with many accent diamonds. They have titled it “Graduated Diamond Ring and Band” in platinum.

In this case we have chosen a diamond setting and a band that are made to go together.  The ring setting is accented with 10 round diamonds with a total carat of 0.10. The average clarity is SI1 and color is H.

The case of the band is also very similar, however there are 12 diamonds instead of 10. The number of diamonds and carats can vary depending on the size of the ring. This goes for the band as well as the setting.

These are rather standard characteristics. One doesn’t really need to place extraordinary stones into a pave setting since they aren’t really the stars of the show.

The diamond that I chose is a fairly nice diamond of 2.00 carats with  color of  H, diamond clarity VS1 and Very Good cut.    Although the setting can take a diamond size ranging from 0.20 to 2.10 for a round brilliant shape. If your tastes incline more towards a square shape diamond like an princess cut, emerald cut, asscher cut or cushion cut then the top of the carat weight range can be 4.50 carats.

The approximate price tag for the diamond stone, setting and band is the following:

• Diamond: $17,600.00
• Setting: $1,000.00
• Band: $1,000.00
• TOTAL: $19,600.00
